Uzbek is the official language of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the regional language of Afghanistan. In addition to Uzbekistan, Uzbek is also spoken in Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Russia, Turkey and other countries, although it does not have an official status there. Uzbek, like other Turkic languages, is an agglutinative language with elements of analyticism. Nouns do not have a grammatical gender category: there is also no agreement on gender and case. The Uzbek dictionary is based on words of common Turkic origin, however, the Uzbek vocabulary contains many borrowings from ancient Buddhist, Persian and Arabic languages. From 1940 to 1992, when Uzbekistan was part of the USSR, the Cyrillic alphabet was used. After Uzbekistan gained independence, there was a transition to the Latin alphabet. In the new alphabet, in order to unify with the main Latin alphabet, there were no characters with diacritics. Currently, attempts are being made to change the Uzbek alphabet on a Latin basis by adding diacritics to it. For example, replace "sh", "ch", "o'" and "g" with "ş", "ç", "ō" and "ḡ". So far, the final transition has not occurred, and at the moment both Cyrillic and Latin letters continue to be used in Uzbekistan. The number of native speakers of the Uzbek language is about 33 million people.
