Traditional Chinese hieroglyphs appeared during the Han Dynasty around 200 BC. Since the 5th century AD, the rules of writing and the forms of the hieroglyphs themselves have relatively stabilized and subsequently changed not so much. Until the middle of the 20th century, this form was considered the only written form of the Chinese language. The term traditional appeared only after the reform of writing in the People's Republic of China in the 1950s, where the authorities significantly simplified the writing of many hieroglyphs. Complex ornate hieroglyphs have become easier to write with much fewer lines and curls. This new form of writing of the Chinese language became known as simplified. The name "traditional" began to be used in connection with the widespread use of simplified writing, to denote non-simplified. The Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) officially calls the traditional hieroglyphics "standard" or "generally accepted". At the moment, traditional Chinese writing is used in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, as well as in many non-Asian Chinese diasporas around the world. In Taiwan, the set of traditional characters is regulated by the Ministry of Education of Taiwan and standardized in the standard form of national characters.
